Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 May 2026

The short version

  • ·We collect your email and details about your dog so we can personalise the Service for you.
  • ·We don't sell your data. We use the Meta Pixel to measure and improve our advertising, and our own analytics to understand how the Service is used.
  • ·We share data only with the service providers we need to run the app (hosting, AI, transactional email).
  • ·You can access, export, or delete your data at any time — just email us.
  • ·The full detail is below if you want it.

This is the Privacy Policy of PawChef Pty Ltd (ABN 51 694 031 064) ("we", "us", "our"), the company that operates BetterBowl ("the Service").

We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what we collect, why, what we do with it, and the choices you have.

We comply with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you're in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with its own privacy laws, you may have additional rights — see section 9.

1. What we collect

We collect different categories of information depending on how you interact with the Service.

When you join the waitlist

  • Your email address (required)
  • Your first name (optional)
  • Information about your dog: number of dogs, size, what you currently feed, approximate monthly food spend (all optional)
  • Your country (optional)
  • Whether you've consented to receive updates from us

When you create an account

In addition to the above:

  • Profile information for your dog or dogs: name, breed, weight, age, activity level, allergies, sensitivities, health goals, and any photos you choose to upload
  • Account credentials (email and password — passwords are stored hashed; we never see them in plain text)
  • Optional details such as your time zone or location, where relevant to features

When you use the Service

  • Meal and feeding data: meal plans, recipes you've built or favourited, your cooking queue, shopping list, pantry items, batch cook records, and freezer stock
  • Health logs: meal feedback (appetite, energy, stool observations), weight logs, cycle check notes, and any photos you choose to attach (e.g. stool photos for digestion check-ins, meal photos)
  • Ask BetterBowl conversations: when you use the in-app AI assistant, your question and relevant context (e.g. the recipe or dog you're viewing) are logged along with the response
  • Feedback you submit through the in-app feedback form
  • Technical data: IP address, device type, browser type, operating system, the pages you visit in the Service, and timestamps
  • Cookies and similar technologies (see section 7)

What we don't collect

  • We don't collect payment information during the beta (because there's nothing to pay for). When paid tiers launch, payments will be handled by a third-party processor and we won't store full card details.
  • We don't intentionally collect sensitive information about you (such as health, religion, or political views). If you choose to share such information in free-text fields or assistant conversations, we'll treat it confidentially.
  • We don't collect precise GPS or location data.
  • We don't collect government identifiers (driver's licence, passport, tax file numbers).
  • We don't use data brokers, facial recognition, voice recognition, or any biometric identification. We do use the Meta Pixel for advertising measurement (see the Analytics and Advertising section below).

2. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide the Service — for example, generating recipes sized for your dog, tracking your freezer, or answering questions through Ask BetterBowl (our in-app AI assistant)
  • Personalise content and recommendations
  • Send you account-related emails (e.g. confirmations, password resets)
  • Send you marketing emails about BetterBowl, but only if you've consented — and you can unsubscribe at any time
  • Improve the Service: analyse usage patterns, fix bugs, develop new features
  • Improve Ask BetterBowl's responses using anonymised, aggregated data. We don't use your personal conversations to train external AI models, and we don't sell or share your assistant conversations with anyone.
  • Communicate with you about feedback during the beta
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
  • Comply with legal obligations

We don't sell your personal information. We use the Meta Pixel, which shares limited activity data with Meta to measure and optimise our advertising. We don't use your dog's photo or name for marketing without your explicit consent.

3. The legal basis we rely on

If you're in Australia, our processing is lawful under the Australian Privacy Principles because:

  • You've consented (e.g. by joining the waitlist or creating an account)
  • It's necessary to provide the Service you've asked for
  • It's required to comply with legal obligations
  • It's a legitimate business interest that doesn't override your rights (e.g. fraud prevention, basic analytics)

If you're in the EU or UK, the equivalent GDPR/UK GDPR bases are: consent, contract, legal obligation, and legitimate interests.

4. Who we share information with

We share information with the following categories of third parties only as necessary:

Service providers we use to operate BetterBowl

  • Hosting and database provider: we use Base44 to host the Service infrastructure, including user data and account information.
  • Photo and file storage: photos you upload (dog profile photos, stool check photos, meal photos) are stored on cloud object storage hosted by Supabase.
  • AI providers: when you use Ask BetterBowl (our in-app AI assistant), your question and relevant context (such as the recipe you're viewing or your dog's profile) are sent to a third-party AI provider to generate the response. We've selected providers with strong privacy commitments and don't allow your data to be used to train their public models.
  • Email provider: we use a transactional email service to send you account emails and (if you've opted in) updates.
  • Analytics and advertising: we use our own in-app event logging to understand how the Service is used (which screens are visited, which features are used) so we can improve it. We also use the Meta Pixel to measure and optimise our advertising; it shares limited activity data with Meta. We do not sell your data or share it with data brokers.

These providers process your information on our behalf, under contracts that require them to keep it confidential and secure.

Other situations

We may also disclose information:

  • To comply with legal obligations (court orders, lawful requests from authorities)
  • To enforce our Terms or protect our rights, property, or safety
  • In connection with a business sale or restructure (and only to the extent necessary, with privacy obligations passing to the new owner)
  • With your explicit consent

5. Where your data is stored

The Service uses cloud infrastructure that may be located in Australia, the United States, or other countries where our service providers operate.

When your data is transferred outside Australia, we take reasonable steps to ensure it's protected to a standard equivalent to the Australian Privacy Principles — for example, by using providers with appropriate certifications and contractual safeguards.

6. How long we keep your data

  • Active accounts: we keep your data for as long as your account is active.
  • Closed accounts: when you close your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, unless we're legally required to retain certain records (e.g. for tax or fraud-prevention purposes).
  • Waitlist signups (no account): if you joined the waitlist but never created an account, we keep your waitlist record for up to 24 months. After that, we delete it unless you've explicitly asked to stay subscribed to updates.
  • Backups: data may persist in encrypted backups for up to 90 days after deletion before being purged.

7. Cookies and tracking

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Essential cookies: required to keep you logged in and the Service working (e.g. session tokens). These can't be disabled.
  • Advertising cookies: the Meta Pixel sets cookies to measure and optimise our advertising. Our own analytics use first-party storage to understand how the Service is used.
  • Preference cookies: remember your settings and preferences.

We don't use advertising cookies or third-party marketing trackers. Our analytics are used to improve the experience, not to retarget you with ads.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may stop the Service from working.

8. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct any inaccurate or out-of-date information
  • Delete your account and personal information
  • Export your data in a machine-readable format
  • Withdraw consent for marketing emails at any time (every marketing email has an unsubscribe link)
  • Object to or restrict certain types of processing
  • Lodge a complaint with us, or with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you're not satisfied with our response

To exercise any of these rights, email us at admin@betterbowl.com.au. We aim to respond within 30 days.

If you're not satisfied with how we've handled your privacy, you can contact the OAIC at oaic.gov.au.

9. International users

If you're outside Australia:

  • EU and UK users: you have the rights described above under GDPR / UK GDPR. You can also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
  • California residents: under the CCPA / CPRA you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, request correction, and opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. We don't sell personal information and we don't share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
  • Other regions: local laws may give you additional rights. Email us if you'd like to discuss them.

By using the Service, you acknowledge your information may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your home country, including Australia and the United States.

10. Children

The Service is intended for adults (18+). We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their information, please contact us and we'll delete it.

11. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
  • Encrypted password storage (hashed, never plain text)
  • Access controls and authentication for our systems
  • Regular review of our security practices

No system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a data breach that's likely to result in serious harm to you, we'll notify you and the OAIC in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you — usually by email and a notice in the Service — at least 14 days before the changes take effect.

The "Last updated" date at the top of the policy reflects the most recent version.
